Before you start

  • 18+. Gambling is prohibited for anyone under 18.
  • There is financial risk. Every bet can lose the money staked. Outcomes depend on chance.
  • It is entertainment, not income. It is not an investment, a financial strategy or a way to pay off debt.

Practical rules

  1. Set a budget with money you can afford to lose without touching essentials, and set it as a deposit limit with the operator.
  2. Set a time limit before you start and use session reminders or limits.
  3. Don't chase losses. Betting more to win back what you lost usually makes the loss bigger.
  4. Never gamble with borrowed money or money meant for rent, food, health or debts.
  5. Take breaks. Stepping away helps you decide calmly.
  6. Avoid gambling when you have been drinking, or feel distressed, angry or tired.

Warning signs

Pay attention if any of these apply to you:

  • You think about gambling for much of the day.
  • You gamble more than you planned, or until your money runs out.
  • You have tried to stop or cut down and couldn't.
  • You go back to win back what you lost.
  • You feel guilt or regret after gambling.
  • You hide how much you gamble or lie about it.
  • Gambling causes arguments at home or problems at work or school.
  • You borrowed money and couldn't pay it back.

IPLyC offers a self-assessment on its site (in Spanish).

Operator tools

Authorized operators offer control tools. Set them up before you deposit. BetWarrior, for example, lists:

  • deposit, bet and session-time limits, daily, weekly or monthly;
  • a quick-exit button that logs you out for a 12-hour break;
  • time-out, to lock the account temporarily;
  • voluntary self-exclusion.

Self-exclusion

In the Province's gaming halls, self-exclusion is voluntary and lasts two years. It is requested with an application form and a consent form, published by the program on its site and handed in at any gaming hall. For online gambling, each operator offers its own self-exclusion from the account. If in doubt, call 0800-444-4000.

If you are worried about someone else

Talk without judging, tell them free help exists and offer to be there when they call. The provincial program also supports families. Don't lend money for gambling or to cover gambling debts.

Minors

If you share a device with minors, log out of gambling sites, don't save passwords and consider parental-control tools.
